Five members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club competed in the Great East Run 20k on a very cold day with persistant rain.
The course took the runners round the pleasant country roads and villages south of Bungay known as the ‘saints’ but the weather conditions were so bad that competitors were forced to concentrate more on the race and less on the view of the countryside. The soup provided for runners as they finished was certainly welcome.
Tim Earl was first to finish for Waveney Valley in 38th place in a time of 1-27.01. Bill Kingaby finished 63rd in 1-31.12 and was awarded first prize in his age group. New member Lisa Knights was placed 111th in 1-39.37 and was delighted to mark her debut for the club by receiving the award for third place in her age group.
Joe and Tracy Mayne have tackled several different distance events on the road this year and have now added the 20k to their race CV. Joe finished 134th in 1-42.57 and Tracy 235th in 2-23.34.
