Great Yarmouth 5 Miles (Race 1) & Parkrun

Just over a dozen members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club made the short journey over the county border to compete in race one of the popular Great Yarmouth Promenade 5 mile evening series.
Running very well in the mild, spring conditions, club secretary Richard Aukland, who has shown immense improvement over the last few months, recorded a big personal best time of 31:37. He finished 37th from a total of 257 runners.
Bill Kingaby was 73rd in 34:31 and was awarded second prize in the mens 60-69 age group while David Mower was a very creditable third in the same age group in 36:21 and 92nd overall. New member Colin Maxwell was 116th in 38:07, Vladimir Laptikhovsky 146th in a personal best 39:25 and Joe Mayne 149th in 39:31.
In her first 5 mile road race, Caren Elvin finished 161st in 39:58 with David Goosey just two seconds behind in 164th in 40:00. Paul Grant was 178th in 40:51, new member Peter Lawrence 187th in 41:44, Patricia Tuttle 210th in 43:51, Stuart Smith 212th in 43:54 and another new member Jane Hunt 243rd in 48:11.
The race was won by Kessingland college student Dominic Oliver, representing his first claim club City of Norwich A.C., in a time of 26:22.
