Club Championships, 28/06/14 and 03/07/14

Club records were broken and personal bests aplenty last week when Waveney Valley AC held their inaugural Club Championships for their Junior members. The thriving Junior’s, boasting over 80 members over the past year since re-starting just under 2 years ago, competed their athletics championships in warm sunny conditions at East Point Academy in Lowestoft.
The under 11s competed an 80m sprint, 600m run, long jump and howler throw to identify the best in each event, and an overall winner across the events. The under 13s and under 15s likewise competed, but across a ‘super 7’ of 100m, 200m (U15 300m), 800m (U15 1500m), long jump, high jump, javelin and shot put.
All events were keenly contested in each age group, with just 3 points separating the top 2 girls in the U11 championship, and top 2 boys in the U13 championship.
In the U11 girls category, Grace Forster was Club Champion with 185 points, closely followed by Shamara Hammonds with 182 points and Brooke Oram 3rd with 170 points. Grace achieved a new Club long jump record with a leap of 3.52m, with Brooke setting a Club record with a howler throw of 30.96m. Shamara won the 75m with a PB of 12.4s, and Grace the 600m with a time of 2.06s.
For the U11 boys, Theo Hudson was Club Champion with 240 points, followed by Reuben Harvey with 200 points and Isaac Phillips 3rd with 192 points. Theo won all 4 events, recording Club records in the process with a long jump leap of 3.55m, howler throw of 35.70m, and PBs in the 75m of 12.0s and 600m of 2.06s.
The U13 girls saw a dominant Mia Hopson Club Champion with 308 points, with Harriet Gooch 2nd, and Maisie Howes 3rd. Club records again fell, with Mia recording an 800m time of 2.59s, Harriet a shot put of 6.22m, and Mia and Harriet both recording jumps of 1.00m in the high jump. Mia also won the 100m in 14.6s, 200m in 30.8s and javelin with a throw of 14.72m.
The keenly contested U13 boys saw Callum Hopson crowned as Club Champion with a haul of 333 points, closely followed by Tai Elvin-Andrews with 330 points, and Alec Wilson in 3rd with 291 points. Callum registered a Club record in the 200m with a run of 29.5s, and he also won the javelin with a throw and PB of 19.70m. The 100m was won by Ben Newman in a time of 15.1s, the shot put was won by Dylan Harvey with a throw and PB of 6.11m, with Tai Elvin-Andrews winning the 800m in a time of 2.40s and the high jump on count back from Callum and Alec with a jump of 1.15m.
The U15 girls Club Champion was Emily Archbold with338 points, withHarriet Lyman 2nd with 306 points, and Lauren Oram 3rd with 218 points. Club records were set by Harriet in the 300m with a run of 48.6s and 1500m with a time of 6:15s and also the javelin with a throw of 15.19m. Emily set new records in the long jump with 4.17m, and shot put with a throw of 7.36m. Emily also won the 100m with a run of 14.7s, and high jump with 1.25m.
Jake Block was U15 boys Club Champion with 419 points, followed by Aidan Hewitt with 396 points, and James Russell 3rd with 359 points. Jake recorded three Club records – 1500m with 5:57s, shot put with 8.81m and javelin with 27.39m. He also won the long jump with a PB of 4.49m, and 100m in a time of 13.5s. James set a new Club record in the high jump with 1.45m, with Aidan winning the long jump with a PB of 4.49m.
While the results were being finalised, the male and female coach’s and male and female parents teams had a 4x 100m relay race, with the men’s coach’s finishing victorious!
On conclusion all under 11 athletes were presented with a ‘Quadkids’ certificate with their points performance total entered, and all events winners were presented a medal.
There were photo opportunities for the Club Champions and 2nd and 3rd finishers, who received the perpetual shields and medals on the winners podiums.
