The Bungay Festival of Running took place last Sunday with eight members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club entered.
There were three distances to choose from this year, with a 10k added to the annual half and full marathon.
Traditionally, the half marathon has most entries at this meeting, but it is always the marathon that draws most admiration from the spectators as the runners have to do two laps of an energy-sapping hilly course starting at Bungay, heading towards Beccles then back to the finish at Bungay.
Waveney Valley had Lisa Joyce tackling the full marathon and she achieved a time of 4-34.18 in her debut marathon, a very good effort over the notoriously tough course. She finished in 148th place.
There were six Waveney runners in the field of more than 500 in the half marathon, four of them finishing in the top 60 places. Chris Pimlott recorded 1-27.49 for an excellent 18th place, club secretary Richard Aukland was 31st in a personal best 1-30.56 and new member Peter Rogers was 35th in 1-32.08, more than twenty minutes faster than his previous Bungay half a few years ago.
Bill Kingaby finished 60th in 1-37.41 and both Alan Richardson and Stuart Smith were very satisfied with their races. Alan finished 295th in 2-00.24 and Stuart 350th in 2-05.21.
Tim Earl competed in the 10k race and finished in 20th place, from a field of 217, in a time of 40:59.
At last Saturdays Gorleston 5k parkrun, there were personal bests for Rob Milner in 22:47, new member Cheryl Goymer in 29:21 and Donna Milner in 30:30.
