TURKEY TROT RACE REPORT
Positions were hotly contested at this year’s Turkey Trot 10 Mile Road Race in Beccles, organised by Waveney Valley Athletic Club. The race was kindly supported by Britvic and M & H Plastics.
Lowestoft Road Runner’s Carl Prewer took first place in a time of 55:17 with second and third places taken by Maz Firouri (Cambridge Tri Club) and Neil Davison (City of Norwich AC) with times of 55:25 and 55:29 respectively.
For the females, Natasha Belson from Ipswich Jaffa was first with a time of 64:08 and placed 18th overall. Marie Shirley from Sudbury Joggers (65:02) and Tracey Curl from Norwich Road Runners (66:50) came second and third.
Waveney Valley’s Tim Earl continues on top form and knocked a staggering six minutes off his personal best and completed the race in 65:00 placing him 19th.
Entries were fifty per cent up on last year’s race with 149 entries and 135 finishers. Conditions were reasonable with a slight wind and couple of heavy cold downpours.
Winners in the male veteran categories were: Vet 40+ Andy Jones (City of Norwich), Vet 45+ Karl Sherry (Norwich Road Runners), Vet 50+ Lindsay Raymond (Norwich Road Runners), Vet 55+ Terry Epps (Wymondham), Vet 60+ Jim Hayes (North Norfolk Beach Runners) and Vet 65+ David Gilbert (Tri-Anglia).
Winners in the female veteran categories were: Vet 40+ Lynn Emmett (City of Norwich), Vet 45+ Sue Aves (Mid Essex Casuals), Vet 50+ Jacqueline Wright (Unattached), Vet 55+ Marion Walker (Framlingham Fliers), Vet 60+ Christine Muttit (Unattached).

Race Reports
Tim Earl and Alan Fairs took part in the inaugural Adnams 10K in Southwold on 22 November. Tim completed the race in 40.43 and Alan in 46.46 placing them 8th and 70th respectively despite windy conditions. This popular race attracted 347 finishers.
In the 25th Norwich half marathon last Sunday, obviously not too tired from racing the previous week, Tim Earl achieved a personal best of 1:28:56 placing him 128th overall and 122th in his category. Mark Potter completed the new course in 1:23:44 placing him in 46th position and 31st in his category. The weather was ideal, overcast and dry for the 2233 finishers.
-----------------Runners from Waveney Valley Athletic Club took part in races all over the UK last weekend (25 October).
Tim Earl completed the Snowdonia Marathon in a time of 3hrs 27:57; a personal best by more than ten minutes. Tim was placed 99 out of 1325 finishers in the demanding and spectacular route, encircling Snowdon, Wales' and England's highest peak.
In Portsmouth, Stephanie Pimlott completed the Bupa Great South Run with her father, Stuart Smith. Stephanie finished with a time of 1hr 39:34 and Stuart crossed the finish line in 1hr 41:41 having run the furthest he had ever done! Stephanie and Stuart came 7595th and 8210th respectively out of 21,000 runners. The flat course was abundant with supporters and the only difficultly was the strong wind off the sea. The pair raised nearly £500 for Traidcraft.
Closer to home, five members of Waveney Valley took part in the increasingly popular Great Yarmouth 10k. With 529 competitors, Mark Potter (38:09) was first home for Waveney in 16th place. Bill Kingaby (42:40), Alan Fairs (45:36), Dale De Pasquale (57:02) and David Pimlott (59:15) all had good races.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On an extremely blustery and chilly 14 September at Northgate High School, Ipswich, the Suffolk County 5000m championships were held. Club athlete Tamsin Desborough competed in the event alongside a large field of runners of varying age groups. This was a new distance for her but she took the challenge in her stride. Whilst not finishing first overall, she was first in the U17 Ladies thus earning the title "County Champion" 2009.STOWMARKET STRIDERS TAKE THE LEAD AT MUTFORD
Led by Tamara Jordan, it was the third year in a row for the Stowmarket Striders in the Mutford Relays last Sunday (12 July).Hosted by Waveney Valley Athletic Club, the annual five by 5km race attracted 30 teams for the main race and two teams in the ‘B’ race from across the region. Teams in the main race required a female and veteran runner to qualify.
The Stowmarket Striders ‘A’ team completed the race in a time of 1:29:00. Tamara Jordan’s time of 18:00 was just six seconds off the course record and secured her winning female senior securely.
West Suffolk Athletic Club’s ‘A’ team came in second place with a time of 1:30:57 and Lowestoft Road Runners’ ‘A’ team came in third place with a time of 1:32:17. Waveney Valley’s ‘A’ team achieved fourth position with a time of 1:37:10.
In the main race, the fastest lap for the senior men was Lowestoft Road Runners’ Carl Prewer (16:27). Winners in the male veteran categories were: 40+ Roger Aldis, Stowmarket Striders (17:25), 50+ Ker Macrosson, Stowmarket Striders (20:24) and 60+ Ken Bowman, Coltishall Jaguars (21:40). Winners in the female veteran categories were: 35+ Karen Archbold, Lowestoft Road Runners (21:08), 45+ Maureen McCarthy, St Edmunds Pacers (20:39) and 55+ Carole Spong, Great Yarmouth Road Runners (26:19).
In the ‘B’ race, West Suffolk Athletic Club’s ‘C’ team won with a total time of 1:47:09, beating Lowestoft Road Runners’ ‘B’ team who completed the race in 1:59:01. Emily Wenman (West Suffolk Athletic Club) was the fastest senior female (22:08) and Simon Dawson also from West Suffolk Athletic Club) was the fastest senior male (18:14) in this race. Pauline Norman (Lowestoft Road Runners) won the veteran 55+ category with a time of 23:53.

WROXHAM 5K AND BROOME 10K
Members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club have been competing in races in both Norfolk and Suffolk in recent weeks as clubs in the region stage their 'series of three' evening road races throughout the summer.At the Wroxham 5k series, organised by Norwich Road Runners, four Waveney Valley members joined almost 240 other runners at the start line at Broadland High School in Hoveton for race 1.
Chris Pimlott's in-form time of 17:53, in finishing 16th, has given him a positive start to the summer season, following on from a number of confident runs earlier in the year.
Timothy Earl and Bill Kingaby were in close contention throughout the race, with Earl finishing 53rd, in 19:59 and Kingaby 57th ( 2nd vet. mens 55+ category) in 20:08. Hannah Marks continues to enjoy the start she has made to road race competition and was placed 178th in 25:38.
At race 1 of the Broome 10k series, staged on wednesday week, Bill Kingaby, from an entry of 74 runners, recorded a time of 41:27 in finishing in a very satisfying 9th place and 2nd in his veteran age group category.
GREAT YARMOUTH PROM RACE 3
Race 3 of the Great Yarmouth 5 mile promenade series took place on wednesday week with half a dozen members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club in the starting line up of over 170 runners.For the first time in this years series, runners had a stiff breeze in their faces to contend with on the southbound promenade section of the course so for many runners there was the expectation that finishing times would be down on the previous races.
Leading the club home was Richard Moore who finished 11th in 28:37, giving him third place prize in the veteran 40+ age category. He was also presented with the series prize in his category as top placed runner over the three races.
Bill Kingaby was 41st in 33:06 and, although finishing outside the prize winning places in each race in the veteran 50+ age category, he only just missed out on the series prize which went to T. Epps of Wymondham A.C.
Despite the breezy conditions, Alan Fairs' time of 38:41 (101st place) was his fastest of the series and David Pryce was not far behind in 117th place in 41:10.
Paula Lambert, in her only appearance of the series this year, was pleased with her time of 43:06 in 134th whilst new club member, 23 year old Hannah Marks, ran comfortably inside her training pace of 9 minute miling over shorter distances, to record 44:22, finishing 146th.
BECCLES JUNIOR TRAINING
David Pimlott – road race organiser, acting as Beccles junior rep has restarted junior training at Beccles Sports Centre on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8pm.
Double Olympian and Chicago marathon winner Paul Evans is providing great coaching for the first few weeks.
David is to take coaching qualifications and encourages other club members & parents to support him and get involved in order to maintain this facility for the juniors.

WAVENEY VALLEY SECURE 6 MEDALS AT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seven juniors from Waveney Valley Athletics Club competed in the recent Suffolk County Track & Field Championships held at Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich.Conditions on the day were very tough with brilliant sunshine and high temperatures all morning making the middle to long distance races very hard and a blustery easterly wind in the later part of the day blowing down the finishing straight troubling the sprinters.
First up for Waveney was Megan Soanes (U13 girls), on form Megan secured 3 medals, 1st in 800m setting a new PB of 2:38.6, 2nd in Long Jump again a new PB of 4.06m and 3rd in 200m in 31.9 against that strong head wind.
Waveney’s U13’s boys had two first time competitors in the form of Ewan Anderson & Jamie Finch. Ewan having a brilliant run in his first event, the 75m Hurdles gaining a 3rd place medal and PB in 17.2sec. He then set two more PB’s one in 100m in 16.1sec and the other in 200m in 33.7sec. Jamie running under the weather battled well to finish 8th in 1500m against a very strong field of runners and very hot conditions. Jamie also put in good performances in Long Jump and in 200m just missing out on the 200m final by one place.
Rachel Smith (U15 girls) competing in 100m for this meeting, having won her heat to qualify for the final Rachel matched her heat time of 14.1sec but narrowly missed out on a medal.
(U15 boys) Dominic Oliver, started off his day well setting a PB in long jump with 3.89m. Then gaining a 3rd place medal and PB in the 400m in 66.4sec and to finish off a good day ran well to finish 5th in the 800m.
(U17 girls) Polly Davies & Tamsin Desborough set PB’s in all their events. Polly winning a 3rd place medal in the 300m in 43.3sec and just missing out on another medal finishing 4th in a fantastic 100m final in 13.4sec. Tamsin opting for the longer distance this time of 3000m finished 4th in 13:54.9 and 4th in Discus with 15.3m.
GREAT YARMOUTH PROM RACE 2
On Wednesday week, seven members of Waveney Valley Athletics Club took part in race 2 of Great Yarmouth Road Runners 5 mile series.
As expected, there was a strong entry from clubs throughout the region as this race was chosen as one of this years Runners Centre Grand Prix races.
Richard Moore was best placed finisher for Waveney Valley with 10th, in a time of 28:28 and was second place prize winner in the veteran 40+ age category.
Just behind Moore was Chris Pimlott in 11th place in 29:15 then James Maycock in 33rd, finishing in 32:35. Timothy Earl was 39th in 32:53 then Bill Kingaby just a second behind Earl, though three places, in a packed dash to the finishing line by several runners.
Glenn Doy, a regular entrant in the annual Lowestoft scores race, was making his Waveney Valley A.C. debut and was placed 101st in a time of 36:56 while Alan Fairs clocked 38:56 for 119th place. A total of 180 runners completed the race. The third and final race in the series takes place on Wednesday 20th starting at 7.15pm
WAVENEY'S MARATHON RUNNERS EXCEL IN LONDON
Three members of the Waveney Valley Athletic Club took part in the Flora London Marathon on 26 April.John Hook achieved an excellent time of 3:06:21. It was Steve Kenyon’s tenth London Marathon in a row, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:27:29. Steve says: “it was a tough one this year”.
Adrian Sadler, running in aid of Cancer Research UK in memory of his brother and father-in-law completed the 26 miles, 385 yards in 4:44:57.
GT YARMOUTH “WARM-UP” MEETING,
Juniors from Waveney Valley Athletics Club competed in a warm up meeting at the Wellesley Road track, Gt Yarmouth.
It was a great evening and was a good introduction into Track & Field competition for first timers Elin & Ewan Anderson and Jamie Finch. Elin competing in U11 girls was 2nd in both long jump and 75m. Jamie (U13 boys) came 1st in 150m and 2nd in 600m & long jump. Ewan also in U13 boys had a successful long jump and gained valuable experience.
Megan Soanes (U13 girls) had a fantastic evening coming 1st in 600m, 2nd in 150m and 1st in long jump with a new personal best of 4.11m.
Dominic Oliver (U15 boys) was 2nd in long jump and 3rd in a very competitive 600m.
Rachel Smith had a good race coming 2nd in the U15 girls 75m.
Polly Davis and Tamsin Desborough both moved up an age group to U17 girls. Running against tough opponents managed good results. Polly 1st in 300m and 2nd in 75m & 150m. Tamsin was 2nd in the mile, a distance not normally ran and 1st in 600m, where both races were of mixed age.
Having had a very successful evening all round the Waveney Valley juniors now have their sights set on the first East Anglian league meeting of this season at the UEA, Norwich.
GREAT YARMOUTH PROM RACE 1
Great Yarmouth Road Runners' spring series of evening 5 mile races got under way on Wednesday week with five veteran team members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club competing in race 1The team were hoping for a successful start to the series to add to the individual and team prizes they won at this series last year.
142 runners lined up at Great Yarmouth seafront, near the Marina Centre, for the start in ideal weather conditions for road racing.
Richard Moore soon established a good position amongst the leading runners and finished the race in a very strong 8th in a time of 27:47 and was the trophy winner for 1st in the veteran 40+ age category.
It is normal practice to do gentle running in the week leading up to running the London Marathon but fearless Steve Kenyon has a strong competitive streak and entered this five miler. He recorded an excellent 31:17, one of his best times for several years, in 18th place and received 2nd prize in the 40+ category.
Bill Kingaby finished 34th in 32:45 which rounded off a good display by the team as they won the veteran mens team prize, an award they won at each of the three races in the series last year.
Alan Fairs has returned to competition in good health after a recent heart ailment and was placed 98th in 38:46 while David Pryce, buoyant after a good performance at the Roger Wing Charity 10k race at Easter, finished 103rd in 39:23
TWO IN A ROW FOR TAMSIN
Four runners from Waveney Valley Athletic Club took part in the annual Bungay Black Dog half marathon held on 19 April. The conditions were dry, but windy for the 458 competitors.Dale Gowen was the club’s first member to complete the course in a time of 1:33:47, putting him in 31st place. Sam Betts was next to cross the line in 177th place and a time of 1:51:37. David Gilbert achieved a time of 1:55:15 (206th place) and David Pimlott 2:08:54 (329th place).
And in the fun run, it was two in a row for Tamsin Desborough. Having won the U16 female award in the fun run at the Good Friday race, Tamsin was the first female to complete the fun run held on 19 April.
Waveney Valley’s Steve Kenyon and Adrian Sadler are preparing for the Flora London Marathon. Adrian is running in memory of his brother and father-in-law and raising money for Cancer Research UK.
TOP TEN RACE IN BROOME
Ten members of the Waveney Valley Athletic Club took part in the annual Roger Wing Memorial Race at Broome on Good Friday.With ideal, but surprisingly warm conditions for this Easter race, first for the club across the finish line of the 10km race was Richard Moore with a time of 36:33 in sixth place followed by Chris Pimlott in tenth place with a time of 37:46.
Having cycled from Lowestoft prior to the race, Steve Kenyon, training for the London Marathon did admirably with a time of 39:48, coming 23rd out of the 222 runners completing the race.
Other Waveney Valley members started the season well; Dale Gowen (41:38), Mark Potter (41:05), Tim Earl (42:54), Steve Barber (43:40), Nigel Herrod (49:30), David Pryce (51:46) and David Pimlott (58:14).
In the one mile 'fun run' held prior to the 10km race, Waveney Valley's Tamsin Desborough was first U16 female to complete the course with a time of 06:57.

Didn't think i would do another marathon but it seems appropriate now.
