Every Thursday night from 6pm to 7pm for under 11’s and 7pm to 8pm for under 13’s and above at East Point Academy, Kirkley Run, Lowestoft. Our more serious athletes that regularly compete are also invited to train on Mondays from 6pm to 7pm for U11’s (and U13 and above during winter) 6pm to 8pm for under 13’s and above during summer.
We train athletes from 8 years old, and currently train in groups of under 11s, under 13s, and under 15s/17s/20s. Please be aware we do have a waiting list for some age categories.
During the winter we usually train in the sports hall, but also undertake road and beach running for all athletes, with some of the older or more endurance focused athletes undertaking more of this and longer distances. We broadly follow Athletics 365, and as such the Athletes train in all athletics disciplines and do not specialise until they are competent in all areas or reach U15 level. When outdoors, athletes will learn drills, train in sprints, endurance, long, triple and high jumps and also shot put and javelin.
Each summer our athletes compete in the East Anglian League, Eastern Young Athletes League and also the Suffolk/Norfolk Quadkids League. Our athletes also compete to collect County titles at the Suffolk County Championships in Ipswich.
In the winter we compete in the Suffolk/Norfolk Sportshall League. Our athletes collected many team and individual trophies, going on to represent Suffolk in the Regional Sportshall competition.
Last year along with GYDAC, Bungay Black Dog RC and Framlingham Flyers, we organised an inter-club competition over a road race, track and field day, cross country and sportshall competition. Waveney athletes usually do incredibly well in these events. This year we aim to win them all! The 2019 series kicks off with the road run in Gorleston on Good Friday.
We welcome new members, and offer 2 free taster sessions. For more information, please see our welcome pack or contact our Junior Co-ordinator: Michaela Gooch
