I competed for the club as a junior sprinter and jumper in the 80’s! I qualified as a group event coach specialising in throws about 15 years ago (I am also a LIRF coach). I rejoined Waveney in 2012 and quickly got involved in helping to coach the Suffolk Youth Games. I’m the junior co-ordinator.
The quick growth of the juniors club has been fantastic. Seeing the athletes confidence grow and how much they improve at each league meeting is very rewarding. We have new helpers and members joining each week and are being recognised as serious competition by the other clubs!
I took my first coaching badge as an assistant coach in 1970, soon to be followed by my full qualification as club coach. Since then I have progressed to UKA Level 3 Coach. Over the past 40 years many of my athletes have gained good club, county and in some cases international recognition. I am always willing to help any athlete who’s ambitions are to work hard and obtain their highest standard.
I was one of four athletes who opened the Lowestoft A.C. in 1970. On 31st March we merged with our neighbours Beccles A.C. and Waveney Valley A.C. came into being!
I am a qualified UKA Athletics Coach. I gained my qualification in October 2013, and prior to that held a UKA Assistant Coach qualification since November 2012. I am also a Level 2 ‘Club’ Field Official.
I coach all athletics disciplines but my favourite part of coaching is actually attending the athletics meetings, where the athletes put their training into practice. It is a proud moment both for the athlete and coach when a PB is achieved.
I aim to continue both training to develop my coaching and officiating – I aim to officiate at a future Olympic Games!
I competed for Waveney in the 90’s in 100, 200, 400, LJ & TJ.
I have been coaching since Sept 2012, I qualified as a UKA Coaching Assistant in November 2012 and have been training to be a Coach since April 2013.
I’m currently learning to coach a range of events, when I qualify as a coach I hope to specialise in sprints.
My favourite part of coaching is when we take our Athletes to Track meets.
Away from Athletics I’m married with 2 children, I’m a BT Engineer and my interests include Darts, Tennis and Football.
I did not take up running until I was 56 but have been addicted since! I have run 3 London Marathons and several Half Marathons. I took up Athletics Coaching in 2009, running the Junior training at Beccles through to 2011 and Waveney Districts Athletic Team for the Suffolk Youth Games from 2010 to 2012. I am an active coach for the Club Seniors and have run several Beginner Groups for all ages and abilities, many of whom are now established runners at the club.
